Employment Domain Group

VISION
To create a work environment that is equitable and inclusive of Aboriginal people.

MISSION
The CUAI Employment Domain provides a venue to address issues that Aboriginal people in Calgary face in seeking and maintaining employment, and to develop solutions with well defined outcomes.

STATEMENT of NEED
To increase the overall level of participation of Aboriginal people in Calgary’s urban workforce to be more proportional to the non-Aboriginal population.
 
Update
The Employment Domain hosted a learning event in October 2009, on human rights resources in the community, including the Calgary Workers Resource Centre and the Alberta Human Rights Commission. In June of 2009, the Employment Domain hosted a forum entitled "Methods to Hire and Retain Aboriginal people". Representation from Canada Safeway, the city of Calgary's Born to Be program and the Calgary Chamber of Commerce were featured. 
 
PRIORITIES (2011 - 2013)
  • Overarching Priority One: Provide opportunities for community collaborations and partnerships through networking and presentations.
  • Overarching Priority Two: Focus on cross cultural understanding and issues pertaining to hiring and retention of all Aboriginal people.
  • Overarching Priority Three:  Support the continuation and/or development of pre-employment or employment programs and services that focus on successful employment outcomes via mentorship, practicum placements, internships etc.

MEMBERSHIP
Membership & Participation in the CUAI Employment Domain is free and is open to anyone, particularly employers, agencies, community members and any other stakeholders. The Employment Domain meets on a quarterly basis.
 
The Employment Domain has a Core Group, which is comprised of 5-9 people from the larger Domain that meet on a monthly basis. The Core group is the coordinating arm for the Employment Domain. It facilitates all activities and projects in coordination with the designated CUAI Liaison.
