About the Collaborative Granting Process

Very important: If you plan to submit a proposal to the CUAI CGP, you need to submit a letter of intent (LOI) before the indicated LOI deadline (October 23 by 4:00 pm). No proposals will be accepted that have not submitted an LOI.

What is it?
  • The objective of the CUAI Collaborative Granting Process (CGP) is to prioritize investment in community-driven projects that build on existing strengths or address high-priority needs and service gaps in the urban Aboriginal community.
  • The CGP is intended to provide a single-window opportunity for project proposals intended to positively impact Calgary's urban Aboriginal population to receive exposure to a broad base of funders. It provides participating funders with community-reviewed proposals prioritized against the CUAI Community Plan.

History:

In late 2002, the Calgary Urban Aboriginal Initiative (CUAI) agreed to partner with the Government of Canada in order to deliver the UAS in Calgary. The Collaborative Granting Process was developed to assist CUAI in prioritizing funders’ investments in community-driven projects that align with CUAI's community plan.

While CUAI is not a funder, by facilitating the CGP it works to bring potential funders together with applicants for the benefit of the Aboriginal community.

When the CUAI CGP was first created and launched in 2003, it was with an eye to continuously improve the process from cycle to cycle based on feedback gathered from CGP applicants, participating funders, and other community entities serving Calgary’s Aboriginal community. The CGP is now in its eighth funding cycle and CUAI is, as ever, interested in your thoughts and experiences about how we might improve the process.
